I was inspired to check out books on dragonflies from the library. One of the Science GLEs is to read nonfiction books on plants and animals. One of the books, Dancing Dragons by Nancy Loewen, was a wonderful, kid-friendly book about dragonflies. As a bonus, it included a make-your-own-dragonfly craft at the end. So we did...
1. Spread glue over half a sheet of wax paper. 2. Place strands of thread on the glue. Fold the wax paper over and let dry. 3. Color a popscicle stick the color you want your dragonfly to be. 4. Glue eyes to the dragonfly's head (use beads, buttons, dried beans) and let dry
5. Cut 4 wings out of wax paper, glue to dragonfly bodies. (We glued the wings to the bottom, then glued a second popscicle stick under, hoping it would hold better. But Klaus still managed to pull all dragonfly wings out within 20 minutes of presenting the boys with their final products!) And...ta-dah! A dragon fly that won't fly away!
