Let the Journey Begin!

The journey begins,
we're all getting in
into the Word of God....
After writing the title of this blog post, those are the words that popped into my mind, a song from Vacation Bible School last week. This journey will be a little different, though hopefully it will contain much of God's Word in it as well. We're starting our 'Homeschooling' Adventures! Elijah would officially start Kindergarten next year (2011) so I printed out the GLEs for Pre-K so we could do a Homeschooling trial run. (though technically, we could say we've been homeschooling all our children since birth) I'm not planning on focusing on any specific homeschooling curriculum. Instead, I'm following the Louisiana GLEs for Math, Science, Social Studies and Reading/English. For other subjects (PE, Art, Religion, etc.) We'll just go with the flow, making sure these things get included somewhere in our lives. I've created chart listing all Pre-K GLEs, then 5 blank columns and a 6th column for Mastery. My plan is to record the date each time we cover a GLE, the final date when he masters the concept. Even though I feel he's mastered several of the concepts already, I'm still putting dates down five times before couting it as Mastery for my official record. (Several of the GLEs include simple skills, such as counting to 10, recognizing 8 letters, things he's known for over a year.) We're not doing an official 'this is school time' either. We snuck in a lesson on counting and ordering (first and last) while playing with rubber ducks in the bathtub. Most of Elijah's day will consist of free play... letting his imagination grow further than I could teach it to. This blog is a place for me to keep more detailed records of his learning...the fun stuff. I predict that some times I may blog every day and some times I may go a month without blogging. In the future I hope to add other writers to this blog as my children become old enough to type what they did themselves. So if you've stumbled across this blog, I hope this post has allowed you to see what my current plans are and I'm sure they'll change constantly as our journey continues!
