Today Elijah braided a bracelet. We talked about over vs. under, left and right and patterns.
Then, using magnets, I spelled 'at'. I placed different letters in front of '-at' and he read each word. We did the same for '-et' '-it' '-ot' and '-ut'. Five minutes later Elijah asked 'can we stop now?' So we did. Then he played with the letters on his own, spelling 't rex' and 'dinosaur' (thanks Nanny Mal!).
It looks like we'll be doing lots of 5-10 minute lessons over the course of the year. That's about as long as he can focus without getting bored or frustrated, at least on things I want him to do. He played with the letters much longer on his own :)
