Elijah told me he wanted to learn about T Rexes and gave me a list of things he wanted to learn. So we searched the internet for information about T Rexes. Today, a month later, I read Elijah a few library books about T Rex. But first, I read him the questions he had asked last month and he remembered some of the answers.
Why do T-Rexes like meat so much? Elijah: Because they're carnivores
How do T-Rexes kill other dinosaurs? Elijah: They eat animals that are already dead. (We found conflicting information in our book this morning, that T Rexes hunted and killed dinosaurs. Elijah prefers the theory that they ate already dead dinosaurs. I'm not sure if it's because that's how he learned it first or because he hates violence.)
How do T-Rexes get sharp teeth then their tooth falls out? He couldn't quite remember at first, but then remembered they grew new ones. We read they have 50 teeth, but our new book said they have 60 teeth, so we'll have to read more about that later.
I think we'll have to stick to learning about one dinosaur at a time. One book we read was only about T Rex and he enjoyed all the info and asked lots of questions. The second book was about T Rex and other meat eaters, but it was confusing because they all looked alike, but had different info. I don't think he's ready for that level of comparison yet. I think learning about them separately will help him keep them straight.
We learned that the female T Rex was bigger than the male. He asked if the T Rex in the picture was a male or female. I asked what he thought. He said it was a male. When I asked why he said, "because he doesn't have a bow on the top of his head."
